First time visit to the Alpha Sushi Bar on 1265 Granville St Vancouver.
Was a bit hesitant to even go due to its name. Sushi. That name always sends shivers down my spine. The thought of eating raw fish.. just not my thing. But I did check out their website before going and was pleasantly surprised that Alpha is more of an Izakaya than a sushi bar. So if you are like me fear not there is lots on their menu other than sushi. Ordered a pitcher of beer some gyoza and some karaage and sat and had a good chat with friends. I strongly suggest you check out their website if the name of a "sushi" restaurant turns you off. Since they have a nice menu that will appeal to all. Nothing overtly special about Alpha. Location is not that great. Used to be on Helmcken street back in the day before that location was torn down to make way for condos. At the bitter end of Granville Street just before you head on to the bridge. Between Drake and Davie to be exact. Prices were on par with other Izakayas that I have frequented over the years.

Fresh sushi. The spicy tuna roll was one of the best we had. Recommended if you are in the neighbourhood.

Happy hour from open-630pm .The discounts are minimal but it helps:) the beer and wine are great deals. Its quite pricey but so worth it. Fresh and beautifully prepared. Pork Toro is my favorite but it's all good. Agedashi tofu is perfectly fried. Beef tataki is the best in town. So is the chicken karagge ( the skin 🙌) if you're adventurous- the natto bomb. You must like natto. The grilled fish takes time but again- so worth it. The staff are friendly and helpful. I wish they were still open for lunch.

The food was delicious. I had their Vancouver jalapeno roll, tempura and the wild salmon sashimi. The staff was friendly and it was not too busy. Nice little place.
